Why shop handmade?
Because fast fashion comes at a price! The fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world - just after the oil industry. By supporting low quality fast fashion from big name companies, manufactured overseas - you are actually contributing to the pollution in our Earth's landfills and exploiting women and children around the globe. Women make up the majority of the garment production work force. Working environments in foreign countries for these women include hazardous working conditions, long hours, and extremely low wages - even forced and child labor. By supporting small batch and handmade - you help support living wages, quality production, and sustainable work environments. Fast fashion is made cheaply and is NOT built to last. More than 10 million tons of clothing end up in landfills each year. Most clothing is made from synthetic fibers - that will never decompose or go away. Hemp and merino wool are both natural fibers, which means they are biodegradable!

Why hemp?
I choose to use hemp because it is truly the most eco friendly fiber to grow/process; it can be grown withOUT the use of harmful pesticides, uses far less water in comparison to cotton, produces twice the amount of fiber per acre compared to cotton, it is the most durable fiber - 4x stronger than cotton, naturally anti-microbial, naturally anti-fungal AND naturally UV protective - making it the all around best textile for our body and planet eARTh. Hemp is a vegan alternative to wool and far more durable! Hemp fabric not only softens over time, but retains it's shape and stretch - unlike other organic fabric blends.

Why merino wool?
Merino wool is natures ultimate technical fiber. It is key for active comfort and layering with its quick dry properties combined with its high warmth to weight ratio. Merino wool is naturally anti-microbial and anti-fungal, and does not get as stinky as quickly as synthetic fibers. I proudly source ZQ merino wool fabric blends that are the most durable and environmentally friendly merino wool in the world. For more information about ZQ certified merino wool standards click the "ZQ Merino" page.

What is deadstock fabric?
Designer deadstock is fabric that's either over produced or over ordered by big companies and manufacturers. Instead of excess fabric going straight to the landfill or incinerator - I utilize large companies leftovers!

What are natural plant dyes?
All natural plant dyes are derived from LIVING PLANTS.  Natural dyeing with plants is a labor extensive process and involves cooking multiple different dye baths. All of my colored natural dyes I offer, I create by extracting color from living plants. I cook down raw plants and extracts of the highest quality to create one of a kind living color. Colors take from days to weeks to achieve with all natural plant dyes and are a true labor of love. Each natural dye bath is one of a kind!

No cancellations...but if something serious comes up - reach out.

How do the plant dyed colors hold up over time?
My colors hold up VERY WELL over time - but like all dyes (even synthetic) - colors may fade slightly over time depending on wear and tear. Excessive heat/washing in high temps/drying in the dryer may fade colors over time. I use the highest grade quality of raw dye plants and extracts available that are the most colorfast/lightfast, to ensure long lasting, LIVING COLOR.  If you have a garment that is still fully functional but the color fades over time please contact me about my re-dye service available for some garments!

What is marbling?
Marbling is a characteristic of some natural dyes - meaning the dye is not always even throughout the entire garment - sometimes resulting in tie dye looking patterns. Every natural dye bath is truly one of a kind, turning out slightly different every time. If you don't want any marbling or dye variation, please consider purchasing a black option.
